Shady Part of Me: In The Shadows Walkthrough (Exposition, Session 2)
Upon completing the initial portion of the Exposition Prologue, players are immediately immersed in the next phase, titled ‘Session 2: In The Shadows.’ This segment unfolds with the girl seated on her bed in a child’s room, where only a few fundamental controls are necessary for gameplay (the following controls are tailored for Xbox consoles):
- Left stick/D-pad: Move in any direction
- Right stick: Adjust camera angles
- Jump: A button
- Action: X button
- Rewind time: Right Trigger/RB
- Restart at last checkpoint: Hold Left Trigger/LB

To begin your journey, exit the bedroom through the door on the right and stand within the white circle in the corridor. This action alters the environment, allowing you to step into the shadows of a room filled with beds.
The little girl is only able to traverse the shadowed areas, as stepping into the light frightens her. Thus, players must navigate through the shadows and avoid the light sources on the floor. Move around the beds and proceed to another white circle near the door on the right to continue the journey.
Light Puzzle One – Opening Door Light Puzzle (First Origami Bird)
At this point, you will likely need to utilize the rewind button to reverse time. Approach the paper origami bird positioned by the double doors, which will swing open and expose the little girl to bright light, forcing her to freeze in place. Activate the right trigger to rewind and set up for a second attempt at this puzzle.
To solve this challenge and safely bypass the light, hide behind the table in shadows. Wait for the doors to close, then swiftly collect the origami bird and proceed to the right, standing in the next white circle to finish this portion and unlock further progress.
The Exposition Prologue contains four origami birds to locate, while ‘In the Shadows’ features five additional birds to discover.
Moving and Flickering Spotlight Puzzles
Advancing further right is obstructed by light streaming from a window, so reposition towards the screen to face a series of spotlights that will activate and deactivate. Timing is essential here: remain hidden in the shadows and only move when the lights are off. Additionally, collect an origami bird situated down the corridor on the left before bypassing the moving light using the small balcony for concealment.
After investigating near the young child on the right, whom the girl notes doesn’t wish to play, navigate upward past bookcases and more spotlight challenges as previously demonstrated until you encounter the light beams from the windows.
There’s another origami bird near the books on the right-hand side of the corridor, which can be easily overlooked while you focus on timing your movements through the light puzzles. If you miss it, retrace your steps or use the rewind feature to try again.
Window Light Puzzle Solution and Completing In The Shadows
The concluding light puzzle in ‘In the Shadows’ features a window light puzzle, where you can discover yet another origami bird location. As the window light remains fixed, navigate past this section to reach the origami bird by maneuvering around the beams of light and following the shadowed line on the floor where phrases like ‘They will see, ’ ‘They will say, ’ and ‘They will talk’ appear. Keep close to the wall and furniture, evading the light until you arrive at the next white circle on the right.
Once again, position yourself inside the circle to initiate the next area, characterized by a corridor of floating books, which introduces a novel aspect to the 3D puzzle platforming experience encountered thus far. Turn right at the end of this corridor, lined with moving statue heads, and proceed down the final corridor to reach the last white circle, thereby commencing Act 1, ‘Whole Again.’ Make sure to collect the fifth origami bird situated at the corridor’s conclusion between the two statues where it reads ‘Judging.’
This concludes your journey through ‘In the Shadows, ’ unlocking the beginning of Act 1 in Shady Part of Me. Players will now be able to interact with and switch freely between the little girl and her shadow, thus enriching the gameplay experience.
